Mohadevpur Upazila, Naogaon

Mohadevpur Upazila (Bangla: মহাদেবপুর উপজেলা), also known as Mohadebpur, is a sub-district (upazila) of Naogaon District in the Rajshahi Division of Bangladesh. Mohadevpur is the only upazila in Naogaon that has no border with any neighboring district. It is situated at the center of Naogaon. Mohadevpur town, located on the banks of the Atrai River, serves as the administrative center.

The upazila is bordered by Patnitala Upazila to the north, Manda Upazila and Naogaon Sadar Upazila to the south, Badalgachhi Upazila and Naogaon Sadar Upazila to the east, and Niamatpur and Porsha upazilas to the west. It covers an area of 397.67 km² (153.54 sq mi).

History

Previously known as Mohadevpur Thana, this administrative region was established in 1898. It was upgraded to an upazila on 15 December 1983. During that time, Mohadevpur Upazila became part of the newly formed Naogaon District, which emerged after dividing the larger Rajshahi District. Before becoming a district, Naogaon functioned as a Mahakuma (মহকুমা).

Geographical Location

The upazila is located between approximately 24.5333°N – 24.7°N latitude and 88.8167°E – 89.1°E longitude.

Mohadevpur Upazila consists of one upazila parishad and 10 union parishads. It contains 307 mouzas and 298 villages. The area falls under parliamentary constituency Naogaon-03 (Mohadevpur–Badalgachhi).
